For many, the perception of decay is that it is grotesque and taboo. The Artful Decay series urges us to surrender to the shadows and revel in the beauty of death and decay, by focusing on individual subjects.

This decayed tooth is a lighter approach to the series, relying less on historical and symbolic meaning, and leaning into the literal. The beauty of this subject lies in the use of colour and shading, focusing on the rot and decay as a point of interest to create an opposition of how teeth are usually depicted in art.

This painting was done with acrylic paint on a 6x6in canvas paper. The painting has a semi-glossy finish.
